First and foremost, let’s talk about all the amazing brain health benefits of avocados. Avocados are a creamy, nutrient-dense fruit that some brain experts believe is one of the world’s most perfect foods! They contain an excellent source of brain healthy vitamins, such as: C, E, K, and B-complex vitamins
While avocados are full of all these great vitamins, they are also mostly comprised of monounsaturated fats (totaling 75%). These monounsaturated fats support the production of acetylcholine—a chemical found in the brain that is tied to both learning and memory function. Avocados are also high in tyrosine, which is an amino acid (a forerunner to dopamine – a chemical in your brain that helps to keep you motivated and focused). Some studies have shown that increased dopamine levels can actually help improve blood flow to the brain and are known to have anti-inflammatory properties too!
So, now that you know all these amazing reasons why avocados are so great for your brain health, lets dig into this quick and easy guacamole recipe that will have you going back for more!

  • 2 avocados – peeled, pitted, and diced
  • 2 green onions, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh cilantro
  • 1 teaspoon seasoned salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic, minced
  • 1/2 lime, juiced

To get started making this amazing guacamole dip combine avocado, green onion, cilantro, seasoned salt, black pepper, garlic, and lime juice in a bowl; mash with a spoon or potato masher until mostly smooth with small chunks.

Pro Tips for Buying & Storing Avocados:

  • If you need to ripen an avocado in a hurry, place it in a brown paper bag along with an apple or banana to speed up the ripening process.
  • Once you’ve cut an avocado, it will turn brown and mushy quickly. The typical solution to keep it fresh is to coat it with lemon juice, but an even better way is to place a thin slice of onion on top.
  • If you’ve got a ripe avocado you won’t be using right now, remove the meat, cut into chunks, and freeze. When ready to use, defrost slightly, then toss into your blender for extra-creamy and brain-healthy smoothies, desserts, or soups.
